About Digital Goose

My Career (The Boring Stuff)

I graduated from university in 2004 with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Science. I spent the next few years teaching digital media at the university while writing a thesis on advergames. In 2006, I left my home town of Newcastle to chase a marketing career in Sydney.

I would spend the next 5 years working agency-side. I began my marketing career as an Account Manager at a magazine publisher before moving on to the greener pastures of mobile. In late 2007, I rode the mobile wave as it made ripples in the marketing industry while working at MobileActive, which, with my assistance, evolved to become Mobile Embrace – one of the top mobile-based marketing agencies in Australia.

Being someone who thrives on a challenge and needs to be busy, I also took on freelance work during this period of my career as a SEO content writer for NetStarter, a website development agency. My nights were spent writing keyword targeted articles on a wide range of topics.

At this point in time, game-based advertising was taking off because everybody was obsessed with playing games on their mobiles and social games on Facebook. Being a passionate gamer, the opportunity to pursue a career in both marketing and games was too good to pass up. I soon became the Business Development Manager at play-based agency 3RDSense in 2010 and would spend over 2 years sourcing, and working with, new major clients that included RSPCA Australia, Jetstar, Penguin Books, Huggies, Channel Nine, Virgin Australia, Fox Sports and more.

After 5 years of grinding it out agency-side in Sydney, I yearned to go back to Newcastle, start a family and plant my feet. I returned home in 2012 and decided to switch it up by moving client-side to become the Digital Marketing Manager at Turnbull Hill Lawyers, one of the largest and most reputable law firms in the Hunter.

While working at THL, I spent many long nights over 2 years completing a Masters in Marketing. After achieving a distinction average and hanging up my university trencher cap for good, I decided it was time for another challenge, so I launched Digital Goose in 2014.

I had become aware that there were many small-to-medium business owners that needed assistance with digital marketing, who weren’t getting it for any number of reasons. I wanted to provide them with a service that made getting that assistance an easy and cost-effective process.

I’m currently the Digital Content Specialist for WesTrac Cat.

My Life (The Fun Stuff)

When the Digital Goose hat comes off, you’ll find me doing one or more of the following:

  • Taking my family on weekend adventures
  • Listening to a new audio book on Audible
  • Streaming music on Spotify
  • Watching the latest binge worthy series on Netflix
  • Pretending to be a movie critic
  • Smashing out PBs at Crossfit LIGHT
  • Dining out at a new hipster establishment in town
  • Writing my first sci-fi novel (well, trying to at least)
  • Staying up way too late on my PS4 Pro
