3 real reasons why you should invest in copywriting

Great Copy is Everything

Copy (text content) can make or break a website. You can have a website that looks like a million dollars. You can invest a truckload in professional photography and attention-grabbing videos. You can stuff your site chock-full of cool functionality that provides a fantastic customer experience. But all of that will be pointless unless you take the time to produce, or invest in, great copy. Why? Here’s 3 real reasons.

1. Convey the right message

Copy is what will help you convey the right message to your customers. You know how they say a picture is worth a thousand words? That’s bullshit and doesn’t apply to websites. Visual media is not enough by itself.

Let’s say you click on a link for ‘Mary’s Tree Services’ and you land on a site filled with beautiful tree imagery, like the one shown above. Without copy you’d have no idea what Mary offers. If you saw that picture, what would you think?

Mary is an arborist. She doesn’t sell trees. She doesn’t plant them. She sure as sap doesn’t take photos of them. She rips those suckers out of the ground. She also does pruning, lopping, transplanting and even stump grinding – but you’d only ever realise this if you read her copy.

2. Inject some personality

Mary sure does offer a lot of tree services, so what? Would reading about them get you over the line? Probably not. 90% of the arborist websites you’ve just browsed in the last 30 minutes all say the same thing. Yawn.

Here’s some real copy I’ve pulled from ‘Shane’s Trees‘.

Many people may not know this but your run of the mill “Tree Lopper” is not actually obliged to carry formal qualifications to carry out tree removal in New South Wales…. Yup, this is certainly something you should be aware of as pretty much anyone with a chainsaw could legally provide you tree services.

Shane’s Trees

Now, I don’t know about you, but I’m calling this Shane bloke. His copy not only conveys helpful information, it does so in a way that I can identify with. It sounds real, authentic, genuine and “Aussie”.

3. Put more cash in your pocket

Don’t worry, I’m not going to beat you over the head with industry buzzwords and marketing drivel. To put it plainly, the Googles of this world love them some copy, packed full of juicy keywords.

Having a lot of well-written copy on your website will have a big impact on your website appearing high on Google’s search results. The higher you appear, the more traffic you’ll receive, this leads to more enquiries, all resulting in more cash in your pocket. It’s not rocket science. Everyone is investing in copywriting, even your competitors. It’s time to get on board.

The takeaway

If you want your website to perform, you need to invest in copywriting.

If you’re a prolific wordsmith who puts sentences together like symphonies, invest your time into crafting magical words that’ll turn readers into paying customers.

If words aren’t your thing, that’s cool, invest some cash into hiring a professional copywriter to drink bucket loads of coffee and stay up all night banging on their keyboard.

Either way… INVEST!

The shameless plug

Did I mention I’m an available copywriter? Hire me now! If you do it in the next 20 minutes I absolutely will not chuck in anything but I will respond with the kind of gusto you’d expect from someone who loves to put words together to persuade people into doing things. Not that I’d ever try and persuade you to do anything. Of course not.
